The Black Skirt Tetra, also known as the Black Tetra or Black Widow Tetra, is a hardy and elegant freshwater fish with a distinctive black-and-silver appearance. Its body features a deep, compressed shape with striking black vertical stripes and long, flowing fins, resembling a skirt. This fish is a favorite among aquarists due to its unique look and adaptability to various tank setups.
Care Level:
- Ease: Beginner-friendly.
- Water Conditions: pH 6.0–7.5; Moderately soft to slightly hard water.
- Temperature: 72–80°F (22–27°C).

- Minimum tank size: 15 gallons.

Temperament:
- Behavior: Generally peaceful but can display fin-nipping tendencies if kept in insufficient numbers or with slow-moving tankmates.
- Compatibility: Ideal for community tanks when kept in schools of 5 or more. Compatible with other active, non-aggressive species such as barbs, danios, and corydoras. Avoid housing with fish with long, flowing fins.
