Description:
The Longfin Leopard Danio is a striking and energetic freshwater fish, known for its elongated, flowing fins and beautiful gold and black spotted pattern, resembling a leopard’s coat. This hardy and active schooling fish brings constant movement to the aquarium and is an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced aquarists.

Care Level:

  • Ease: Easy (great for beginners).
  • Water Conditions:
    • Temperature: 64–75°F (18–24°C)
    • pH: 6.5–7.5
    • Hardness: 5–15 dGH
  • Tank Requirements:
    • Minimum 20-gallon tank (larger preferred for bigger schools).
    • Prefers open swimming space with some plants and decorations.
    • Requires a tight-fitting lid, as they are known to jump.

Temperament:

  • Behavior:
    • Extremely active, peaceful, and social.
    • Best kept in groups of 6 or more to prevent stress and encourage natural schooling behavior.
  • Compatibility:
    • Ideal for community tanks with tetras, rasboras, guppies, corydoras, and other peaceful fish.
    • Avoid housing with slow-moving, long-finned fish, as danios may occasionally nip fins.

Size:

  • Adult Size: Up to 2.5 inches (6 cm)
  • Growth Rate: Fast, reaching full size in 6–8 months.

Additional Notes:
Longfin Leopard Danios thrive on a varied diet of high-quality flakes, small pellets, and occasional frozen or live foods like brine shrimp and daphnia. Their hardy nature makes them adaptable to various water conditions, but they do best in a well-maintained, oxygen-rich aquarium with moderate water flow. Their playful and fast-moving nature makes them a lively and entertaining addition to any tank.
