Description:
The Electric Blue Hermit Crab is a striking marine invertebrate, instantly recognizable by its vibrant blue legs with bold black bands and bright orange antennae. This hardy and active scavenger plays a vital role in reef aquariums by helping to control algae and consuming leftover food and detritus.

Care Level:

  • Ease: Easy (great for beginners and experienced reef keepers).
  • Water Conditions:
    • Temperature: 72–82°F (22–28°C)
    • pH: 8.1–8.4
    • Salinity: 1.023–1.025
    • Hardness: 8–12 dKH
  • Tank Requirements:
    • Minimum 10-gallon tank (larger preferred for multiple hermits).
    • Requires plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding.
    • Provide a variety of empty shells to prevent shell-related aggression.

Temperament:

  • Behavior:
    • Active, peaceful, and beneficial for aquarium cleanliness.
    • Constantly forages for algae and detritus, helping to maintain water quality.
  • Compatibility:
    • Reef-safe, but may prey on very small invertebrates if underfed.
    • Compatible with other peaceful reef inhabitants, including snails, corals, and small fish.
    • Can become territorial over shells, so always provide extras.

Size:

  • Adult Size: Up to 2 inches (5 cm)
  • Growth Rate: Slow to moderate, reaching full size over several years.

Additional Notes:
The Electric Blue Hermit Crab thrives on a diet of algae, detritus, and uneaten food, but should be supplemented with marine sinking pellets, seaweed, and occasional meaty foods. To ensure long-term health, maintain stable water parameters and provide a steady supply of empty shells for growth. Their bright coloration and beneficial cleaning habits make them an excellent addition to any reef or marine aquarium.
