Features:
- Distinctive Appearance: The Chocolate Pacman Frog is characterized by its dark, chocolate-colored skin, often with lighter spots or patterns. Its round, wide body and large mouth make it an easily recognizable and captivating amphibian.
- Docile Nature: Despite their large size and appetite, Chocolate Pacman Frogs are generally calm and tolerant of handling, though they prefer not to be disturbed too often. Their sedentary nature and ability to thrive in their enclosure make them low-maintenance pets.
- Size: As one of the larger Pacman frog species, the Chocolate Pacman Frog can grow up to 4-6 inches in length, with a robust, chunky build.
- Easy to Care For: Chocolate Pacman Frogs are a good choice for both beginner and experienced amphibian keepers due to their relatively simple care needs and hardy nature.
Care Information:
- Diet: Chocolate Pacman Frogs are carnivores and require a diet of live prey. We currently feed our Chocolate Pacman Frogs crickets, which they eagerly devour. They are opportunistic feeders and will eat a variety of insects, including crickets, worms, and occasionally small mice as they grow.
- Housing: Chocolate Pacman Frogs need a humid environment to thrive. A minimum 20-gallon tank is recommended, with a secure lid to prevent escapes. Their enclosure should include a substrate that retains moisture, such as coconut husk or soil, and they benefit from hiding spots where they can burrow.
- Temperature: The ideal temperature range for a Chocolate Pacman Frog is 75-85°F (24-29°C) during the day, with a slight drop in temperature at night to around 70°F (21°C). A heat mat or heat lamp can help maintain the appropriate temperature.
- Humidity: Chocolate Pacman Frogs require a humidity level of 60-80% to stay healthy. This can be achieved by misting their enclosure and providing a shallow water dish. It’s important to maintain this humidity level to prevent dehydration and skin shedding problems.
- Grooming: Chocolate Pacman Frogs do not require grooming, but it’s essential to keep their enclosure clean and provide fresh water daily.
Lifespan: With proper care, Chocolate Pacman Frogs can live 10-15 years, making them a long-term, low-maintenance companion.
The Chocolate Pacman Frog is a fascinating and rewarding amphibian to keep. With its impressive size, docile nature, and unique coloration, it makes a striking addition to any reptile or amphibian collection. Easy to care for and enjoyable to watch as they hunt and explore, the Chocolate Pacman Frog is an excellent choice for any enthusiast looking for a captivating and relatively low-maintenance pet.
